Union environment minister called for stronger cooperation on forest fire prevention, while also stressing on climate finance, at 12th BRICS Environment Ministers’ meeting
Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, Shri Bhupender Yadav, today welcomed Ministers and Heads of Delegations from BRICS Member Countries to the 12th BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, being held in New Delhi.
Delivering his keynote address, Shri Yadav stated that India’s Chairship is guided by the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in placing the concerns of the Global South at the forefront of the agenda and redefining BRICS as “Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability”, with a people-centric approach and the spirit of “Humanity First”.
Shri Yadav highlighted the growing global environmental challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and disaster risks, particularly for developing countries where environmental vulnerability is often closely intertwined with broader development priorities. He called for stronger BRICS cooperation on forest fire prevention, preparedness, early warning, response and post-fire recovery, while stressing the importance of climate finance, adaptation and empowering local communities.

Ministry of Electronics & IT announced India’s Biggest semiconductor event to be held in Yashobhoomi, New Delhi from 17th – 19th September 2026
Marking another significant milestone in India’s semiconductor journey, SEMICON India 2026 will bring together key stakeholders from across the global semiconductor ecosystem, leaders from government and industry, industry experts, academia, government officials and students.
India’s semiconductor journey has been gaining significant momentum under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) through the Semicon India Programme. Twelve (12) projects approved under the Semicon 1.0, aimed at building a robust and resilient semiconductor ecosystem in the country. Further, the Union Cabinet has approved the next phase i.e. Semicon 2.0, to accelerate the development of a robust and resilient semiconductor ecosystem in India.

Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs reclaims 22 Acres of Raichur with Miyawaki forest
Raichur in Karnataka, has transformed the 35-acre Yakalaspura dumpsite into a green asset through scientific legacy waste remediation under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0). ~ 62,252 MT of waste has been processed and nearly 22 acres of valuable urban land, has been reclaimed so far. The restored site now supports sustainable land use, including a vibrant Miyawaki forest, demonstrating how former dumpsites can be converted into thriving ecological spaces.

PIB highlights that India ranks first in global coconut sector
India’s coconut sector supports rural livelihoods, agricultural growth, and cultural traditions. Nearly 30 million people, including around 10 million farmers, depend on the sector. India ranks first in global coconut production, with Keralam leading in area, Tamil Nadu in production, and Andhra Pradesh in productivity.
India’s export basket has expanded from traditional products to value-added products like virgin coconut oil, coconut milk, and activated carbon. The Government, primarily through the Coconut Development Board, implements a range of schemes to strengthen the coconut ecosystem.
During 2025-26, about 2,175 hectares were added under cultivation, while 1,672 hectares were covered under rejuvenation. The Union Budget 2026-27 further introduced the Coconut Promotion Scheme to strengthen sustainability, exports, and farmer incomes. With continued policy support, India’s coconut sector is steadily advancing across production, value addition, exports, and livelihoods.
