Union environment minister reviewed air quality status of Uttar Pradesh , one of most polluted global region

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, today held a comprehensive review meeting with Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, and senior officials of the State Government in Lucknow to assess the progress of ongoing measures aimed at improving air quality in Delhi-NCR.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath welcomed the measures being taken by the Government to curb air pollution in Delhi NCR. He directed all State Government officials to take timely action on different measures discussed during the meeting. He further thanked the Union Minister for organizing this review meeting and his valuable guidance in this matter.

India emphasized its commitment to climate action based on equity, implementation, and sustainable development

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) two-day International Conference on ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’, in New Delhi today.

Addressing the occasion, the Prime Minister highlighted the nation’s profound historical connection to nature, emphasizing how ancient cultural wisdom is actively shaping modern climate solutions and inspiring global collective action. He commended the National Green Tribunal for steadfastly advancing this critical mission and extended his congratulations to the organizers

Delivering his inaugural remarks, Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant highlighted India’s longstanding environmental jurisprudence, noting that the Supreme Court has, over the decades, recognised the right to a pollution-free environment as a fundamental right and developed principles including the precautionary principle, polluter pays principle, absolute liability and public trust doctrine. The Chief Justice said Indian climate jurisprudence has brought climate-related rights into sharper constitutional focus, recognising that adverse effects of climate change can implicate fundamental rights relating to equality, livelihood and health. He called for collective judicial wisdom, scientific knowledge and international cooperation to strengthen global environmental stewardship.

Country focuses on driving national growth through energy security and sustainable development

As India moving towards becoming a developed economy by 2047, reliable and sustainable power holds the key for national growth. Coastal clean-up drive and focus on unexplored ocean wealth  

Leading the coastal clean-up drive at Juhu Beach on the eve of “International Coastal Cleanup Day” being observed across the world tomorrow, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and MoS in the Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted India’s unexplored ocean wealth and referred to Deep Ocean Mission launched by PM Sh Narendra Modi as the torchbearer of India’s Blue Economy.

The Minister said that the ‘Swachh Sagar Surakshit Sagar’ campaign, launched in 2022 during the celebrations of India’s 75th year of Independence, has evolved into a whole-of-government and whole-of-society movement for cleaner coasts and safer seas.

What began as a 75-day inter-ministerial campaign has grown into an annual nationwide initiative around International Coastal Cleanup Day, observed on the third Saturday of September, bringing together government institutions and citizens in a collective effort to protect India’s coastal and marine environment. The 2026 campaign is being conducted from September 12 to 19.
