Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change showcased snow leopard conservation in Russia- India roundtable
India participated in the Russian-Indian Roundtable Meeting on Snow Leopard Study and Conservation, held on 26.08.2026, at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, Russia.
The meeting was organised within the framework of the Partnership Agreement between the Interregional Association ‘Irbis’ and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), signed in December 2025, with the objective of strengthening international cooperation in snow leopard research and conservation.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, delegation highlighted the country’s progress in the snow leopard conservation agenda through evolving science-based initiatives. Officials from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) elaborated on advances in snow leopard population estimation, radio telemetry and genetic analysis, underscoring the growing role of scientific tools in strengthening conservation efforts.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reviews key health projects with Union Budget 2026-27 benchmark
Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda today reviewed the progress of key projects and initiatives announced for the health sector in the Union Budget 2026-27, with a focus on ensuring their timely implementation, effective inter-ministerial coordination and delivery of measurable outcomes. During the review, Shri Nadda took stock of the preparatory work undertaken by various departments of the Ministry and emphasised that Budget announcements should translate into concrete programmes, strengthened institutions and enhanced healthcare capacities within clearly defined timelines.
The Minister reviewed the progress of the initiative to increase emergency and trauma care capacity in District Hospitals by 50 per cent through establishment and strengthening of Emergency and Trauma Care Centres. He was informed that, following a post-Budget webinar, three committees were constituted to examine infrastructure, drugs, diagnostics and quality; human resources, academic expansion and skilling; and digital architecture and pre-hospital integration. A comprehensive gap analysis of District Hospitals against the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) has also been completed. Based on patient load, infrastructure and overall readiness, 613 District Hospitals have been categorised for phased implementation, with 160 District Hospitals identified for Phase I and targeted for strengthening by March 2027. Phase II will cover 203 District Hospitals and Phase III the remaining 250. Shri Nadda stressed the need for close monitoring so that the first phase progresses in a focused and time-bound manner.

Ministry of Jal Shakti and Rural Development eye convergence of Jal Jeevan Mission with Swachh Bharat Mission and VB-G RAM G
In a significant initiative, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, has called for the convergence of works of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) SBM-(G) 2.0 under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025. This convergence is an initiative towards strengthening rural development, integrated planning for rural water security and resilience.
The VB-G RAM G Act, 2025 identifies water security as one of its four thematic focus areas, recognising its importance for sustainable livelihoods, agricultural productivity, climate resilience and long-term rural development. The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, approved on 10 March 2026, places drinking water source sustainability, groundwater recharge and greywater management at the core of its strategy to ensure reliable and resilient rural drinking water services. Similarly, SBM(G) 2.0 focuses on scientific management of solid and liquid waste to improve environmental sanitation and public health. The complementary objectives of these programmes provide an opportunity for integrated planning and implementation through Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans (VGPPs).eng
